Emergency management

The middle of a real emergency is the wrong time to be working out who calls Triple Zero, where the muster point is, or whether the fire extinguisher near the workshop is the right type for an electrical fire. Emergency management is the work you do before something goes wrong - so when it does, your people respond on muscle memory, not improvisation.

What we put in place

• Site-specific emergency plan - the document that covers the realistic emergencies for your site: fire, medical, chemical spill, severe weather, confined space rescue, structural collapse, mobile plant incidents
• Roles and responsibilities - who is the chief warden, who calls emergency services, who does the head-count at the muster point, who meets the responders at the gate
• Evacuation diagrams - current, posted at every workstation, matched to the actual layout (not the layout from three renovations ago)
• First-response equipment - fire extinguishers checked and tagged, first aid kits stocked, eyewash stations functional, spill kits in date
• Drills - run a real evacuation drill annually at minimum. Find out where the plan breaks down in calm conditions before it breaks down in a real event
• Crew training - first aid, emergency response, evacuation drills, refresher when the plan changes
